Ok, maybe not! Guide Dogs might be kinda mad at me then.... The reason for his "ad" is that MEADE IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!! He is really attention oriented! If you are not paying attention to him while he is on tiedown he wll start barking (which we ignore) or chewing on a cord coming out of the wall (then we rush over and get it out of his mouth!!!!)! And just today he has started PEEING on tiedown so we rush over and take him out!!!! I NEED HELP!!!! THIS IS A COMMENT ASAP POST!!!! HELP OR I AM GOING TO EXPLODE!!!!!
The lighter side:
PICTURE!!!
There have been times during Puppy raising that I too wanted to explode! What I would do i plan lots of play time...like if you need to get something done...play before hand....I have to do this with my pups as well...and also remember...they do grow up! :)
ReplyDeleteOh dear! That's not good Meadey!! I have definitely had days where I thought that my head was going to EXPLODE!! Fullerton is a VERY vocal puppy and only in the last month has he quite barking, he is still a little whinney child but my ears could not take any more barking. Anyway, if he is not improving while you ignore him I would hook him to the tie-down and then put on a long line too and start correcting him for it. He needs to learn that barking is NOT fun and he does NOT get attention for it. Good luck and if all else fails CALL YOUR LEADER! :D As for the pottying, make sure he is freshly pottied before he goes on tie-down. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh, and . . . since I just finished my finals if you want to send him here for some puppy boot camp I would love to oblige. I have some free time on my hands. . . LOL
ReplyDeleteAH yes, I believe I posted something simular, after my 7-week-old, pup broke out of the bathroom, and ate a bag of garbage, and then pooped and puked ALLL over the house. We were PULLING things out of her BUTT days later!!!!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work, you are doing fine, keep correcting bad behavior, and reward the good!!
Yup yup yup sounds like some good ol' new pup "lets see what I can get away with" moves. Hang in there!! As far as advice the girls above took the words right outta my mouth!!
ReplyDeleteFor me, the first two weeks were the hardest--but it got MUCH better after that. You've only had Meade for a little over a week, right? Each day will get a tiny bit better--look intently for the progress! When you have a 6+ month old puppy, you wish for those precious 2 month old days (as plainly exhibited by Megan's offer to puppysit!). But when you have a 2 month old pup, you can't WAIT until they get older and know a bit more. Enjoy what you can of these teeny puppy days--I promise you, they will be gone before you know it!!
ReplyDeleteYup,i agree with all the above! He's bored! Tire him out first. Ceaser uses treadmill I know he's little, but same principle applies! Good luck. hang in there! He'll grow up (someday) LOL:)
ReplyDeletehang in there, it does get better - take advantage of puppy sitting...it will give you a break and let the pup know that the rules are the rules. Also I learned a lot from watching how others handle the same problems I was struggling with. There is a saying 'you can't see the forrest for the trees' when you are stuck in the middle it helps to have a fresh set of eyes on the problem. Tacoma my 1st pup was and still is a handful - we fought from day 1. Just remember a tired puppy is a good puppy.
ReplyDeleteOh that first puppy! He'll always always always hold a very special place in your heart, but he'll use up all of your patience and then some. Just try to make sure you take him out to relieve right before you put him on tie down. If he continues to relieve when tied down, don't put him on it until you know that he's reliable with his little bladder. You don't want to create a habit, or make the tie down a negative place for him. Also, try waiting until he completely settles down on the tie down, and then go take him off and play with him. Give him praise and love, and then put him back on after awhile of rest. Don't put him back on right after playing though, or he'll just bark for attention again. Slowly transition him to a rest mode on the tie down. Soon you'll be able to put him there and leave him for longer periods of time! Good luck! I know it may not seem like it right now, but you will learn loads of patience, believe me. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the tips you guys! I called my leader and she said to alternate tie down and the crate during the day, rotating the toys he plays with and once I get home to keep him with me all the time! He is being very good right now and we will continue to do that! Thanks again!
